Restraining an Attacker, 1860 by Toyokuni III/Kunisada
Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a boatman trying to restrain a commoner brandishing a sword. The boatman grabs him from behind, pulling him off balance, an alarmed expression on his face as the commoner scowls angrily. The commoner's kimono hangs open at the chest, and his hair is disheveled. Undulating waves can be seen behind the grassy embankment beneath the night sky. Nice expressive figures in a handsome natural setting. Detailed with embossing on the white loincloth.
